When is the Manatee County summer fertilizer ban?
Manatee County bans nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer from June 1 through September 30 every year. We plan feedings around the ban - a strong feeding in spring before it starts, iron and ban-compliant products through summer if the lawn needs a boost, and a recovery feeding once it lifts in October.
What height should St. Augustine grass be mowed at?
St. Augustine does best mowed high - about 3.5 to 4 inches. Cutting it shorter (scalping) stresses the grass, invites weeds, and makes it far more vulnerable to chinch bugs and summer fungus. We keep our decks set high and never remove more than a third of the blade in one visit.
How do I know if my lawn has chinch bugs?

Every regular mowing visit includes mowing at the correct height for St. Augustine grass, edging clean along your walks and driveway, line-trimming around trees, fences, beds, and any obstacles, and blowing the clippings off every hard surface before we leave. We do not bag the clippings by default because mulching them back into a healthy Florida lawn returns nutrients to the sandy soil, though we will bag if you prefer. What is brown patch fungus and how do you treat it?

We treat it with a fungicide program and fix the conditions that caused it - watering early in the morning and keeping the mowing height up.
How often should I water my lawn in a Florida summer?
