The summer fertilizer ban
Manatee County restricts nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer from June 1 through September 30 to protect the waterways. We build your feeding program around it - color-safe micro-nutrients during the ban, full feeding before and after - so your lawn stays healthy and you stay compliant.
Mowing height for St. Augustine
Our St. Augustine and Floratam grasses want to be cut tall - around 3.5 to 4 inches. Tall blades shade the roots, hold moisture, and crowd out weeds and chinch bugs. Scalping a Florida lawn short is one of the fastest ways to ruin it.
Watering in our humidity

Southwest Florida does not really have four seasons - it has a long growing season and a short rest. Here is how we keep your Manatee County lawn healthy all year.
Spring
As the lawn wakes up, we step mowing back to weekly, put down the season's first feeding, and get ahead of weeds with pre-emergent before the heat sets in. It is also when we start scouting for chinch bugs in the sunny spots.
Summer
Peak growth and peak stress. We mow weekly at the taller end of the range so the grass shades its own roots, watch closely for chinch bugs and brown patch fungus, and stay within the county's June-September fertilizer ban.
Fall

Good to know before you call
These are the "how do you actually do this?" questions. For "how much does it cost?", head to the pricing page.
Do you require a long-term contract?
No. We work month to month. You stay because the lawn looks great and we show up - not because you are locked in. If you ever need to pause or stop, just tell us.
How often will you mow my lawn?
Weekly through the long growing season (roughly spring through fall), when Florida grass grows fastest. In the cooler, slower winter months we usually step down to every other week. We will recommend the right cadence for your lawn and you can adjust it any time.
Why do you mow St. Augustine grass so tall?
St. Augustine and Floratam do best cut high - generally around 3.5 to 4 inches. Taller blades shade the soil, keep roots cool, hold moisture, and crowd out weeds and chinch bugs. Cutting it short ("scalping") stresses the lawn and is one of the fastest ways to invite problems in our heat.
Can you still fertilize during the summer fertilizer ban?
Manatee County restricts nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer from June 1 through September 30 to protect local waterways, and we follow it. During the ban we focus on iron and other approved micro-nutrients for color, plus mowing, watering, and pest care. We resume the regular feeding program as soon as the ban lifts in the fall.
My lawn has brown patches - is it dead?
Often not. Brown patches usually mean chinch bugs, fungus, sod webworms, or a watering issue - not a dead lawn. The cause matters, because the wrong fix can make it worse (more water often helps fungus spread). We will inspect it, tell you what is actually going on, and treat and repair it before assuming anything needs replacing.
Do I need to be home when you come?
No. As long as our crew can reach the yard (an unlocked gate or a code for the latch), you never need to be home. We send you a heads-up, do the work, and leave the property clean. Just keep pets inside on your service day.
